2020 Recreation Season - Registration and Program Updates

Update 7/1/20: While registration for the 2020 season is open in some divisions that still have room, friend request and school team placement may not be available. Division coordinators are in the process of forming teams and will place players on rosters where space is available. There are several new and fun enhancements we are looking forward to in 2020.

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to communicate out our recreation program details, calendar, and key updates.

WCSSC Recreation Program

The mission of the Recreation Program is to develop soccer skills, character, and community through shared experiences and healthy competition. The Recreation Program offers programs for boys and girls ages 5-18. Approximately 2,000 players register to participate in the program per year. All players are welcome regardless of abilities and experience levels.

Note, the Select Program is no longer considered a Recreation based program. For more information on the Select Program, please click on the Select tab.

Recreation Program Highlights:

  • Registration Opens March 18th (new date)
  • Season runs from mid-August through early November
  • Season consists of 10 games and a postseason tournament (ages U9 through U12 and U14)
  • Games are played “In House” in Walnut Creek on weekends except U16-U19, which play other area soccer clubs
  • Practices are held 1-2 times per week
  • Players will play a minimum of ½ of a full game regardless of ability
  • Teams are formed based on friend requests, geographic area and player ability (excepts in U12-U14 program. Select here for further details on the player draft program)
  • Teams are coached by parent volunteer(s) or a high school youth coach paired with a parent volunteer. If you are interested in coaching, please visit the Coaching page here
  • (Update 4/25/20) 2020 Uniform purchase and ordering has been removed from our registration for this season.  Due to the Covid19 situation, our club is making adjustments to our fee structure and preparation for the fall season and will resume the new uniform cycle 2021.  $75.00 will be refunded to those that have already registered - please expect an email from the club the week of April 27th.  Registration April 27th forward will not include the $75.00 uniform fee.  New players in need of a 2020 recreation uniform will receive information on how to purchase a new uniform in the coming weeks.  Returning players will wear the same Surf uniform as the last two seasons.

2020 Recreation Program Fees: 

2020 Registration Fees and Dates 

Note: In the event that the season is canceled due to ongoing COVID-19 health and safety concerns, participants will receive a full refund [including processing fees] of their registration.

Note: Additionally, if the season starts, but has to be closed down AFTER the start of August 2nd, the club has implemented a new refund policy - please see below:

Before August 2nd - 100% of registration fee

8/2-8/21 - 80% of registration *fee 

8/22- 9/30 - 50% of registration *fee

After 10/1 - No refund

*$20.00 administrative fee applied

Early Bird Registration - March 18  May 31st: $270.00

Regular Registration - June 1 until divisions are full: $320.00

Late Registration - June 1st and beyond: $435 (U6 $360): Due to economic concerns and impact from COVID-19, the late registration fee has been eliminated for 2020. However, participants are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible as divisions do fill up.

Registration Base Fee Refund Policy:

100% Refund through June 15th
50% Refund through July 15th
25% Refund through August 2nd
No Refund after August 2nd
Please note - a $15 processing charge is applied to all refunds*.

(*Note: Players who have registered in Recreation but were then selected to play in the club's Competitive or Select programs will receive a full refund including processing fees. Please notify our registrar,, if you have been placed in the Comp or Select program so we can process your refund.)

Regarding Uniforms:  U7 through U19 player fees include a $75 voucher to order the uniform kit. The uniform cost is refundable on a canceled registration only if the voucher has not been used to order a uniform. If eligible for a refund, the uniform fee will be returned at 100%.

Players born between August 1 and December 31 may request to “Play Up” to the next age group. For more information please review FAQ here

*Players born between August 1 and December 31, 2006, have the option to play in either U14 or U16.
