2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the Walnut Creek Soccer Club! When it was first formed in 1971, it
consisted of a couple of boys teams. Girls soccer was added in 1974. By 1976, WCSC had 1000 players. Today Walnut Creek Soccer Club is very close to capacity, with 2786 total players (2121 house - 51% girls, 665 competitive - 48% girls) on 214 teams (170 house, 44 competitive).
The Walnut Creek Soccer Club is unique in that we provide four (4) levels of soccer for our players and families to choose from when participating in our club. Our players participate in our Premier/Gold/Silver (formerly Division 1) and Bronze (formerly Division 3) Competitive programs, our Recreational program, and our Winter Select program. While the playing levels are different, the goal for all our players is the same. We want all our players and families to have the ability to participate at the highest level, while having a fun, memorable and educational soccer experience. We strive to provide an environment that will allow our players to over-achieve in trainings and games as they work to achieve their goals in playing the beautiful game. At all our levels, we are committed to long-term player growth. We want each of our players learning the age appropriate skill sets that they will build upon the longer they play for WCSC.
Our mission to our members will continue to grow and change as the landscape of soccer changes in America. We have already made great strides forward as a club and our mission is to be the best soccer club we can possibly be for all our players, coaches, referees, and families. We are excited about the future of soccer in America, the challenges that lie ahead, and the impact the Walnut Creek Soccer Club looks to make on the local, state, regional and national levels.
As we kickoff our 40th season on September 10th, please remember that our sideline behavior and sportsmanship will set the example for our children!
Sportsmanship is at the heart of competition. I expect all our coaches, parents, and players to respect their competitors, teammates, and officials!
Remember to always play hard, and have fun!
Yours in soccer,
Kevin Erwin
