The Walnut Creek Cobra's (U14-G, Class 1) soccer team won their division in the Adidas Davis Legacy Showcase on July 11, 2010. The girls fought hard in near 100 degree heat to take the Championship. After coming in 2nd place in their pool play, they moved on to the semi-final round against El Dorado United Eclipse. After ending the regular game in a tie, the game moved directly into Penalty Kicks to determine the winner. With a great save by the Cobra's Goalie, Colleen Donoghue, the Cobra's moved on to the Championship game.
The team faced off against Inter Rage Academy SOL , whom the Cobra's had narrowly lost to in pool play. At the end of regular play, the game ended in a tie and went into overtime. After the first 10-minute overtime, the score was still tied. Again in near 100 degree heat, they went into a second 10-minute overtime which also ended in a tie. After almost 2 hours of playing, the game then went into penalty kicks to determine the winner. The Cobra's came out victorious after the long, hard-fought game.
