GU13 Raptors - Advance to Round of 16

The Raptors advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2010 Assocation Cup after a successful weekend in Fremont. After Raptorsthree tough games against teams from Sacramento, Pleasanton and Redwood City, the Raptors placed 1st in their bracket to advance to next weekend's round in Morgan Hill.

Saturday morning's game against Sacramento started slowly for the Raptors. But the Raptors kept the ball most of the game in their opponent's backfield. Goalie Devon made a great stop with less than 30 seconds left in the game to preserve the final 0-0 tie. The Raptors faced the always formidable Pleasanton Rage Orange team in the Saturday afternoon game. As with all their matches against each other, players from both teams provided amazing plays to wow the fans. The Raptors went up 1-0 on an aggressive goal attack by Goobs and Katie K. Pleasanton tied the score 1-1 and that's the way the game ended. All players left their day's energy on the field. Sunday's game versus Redwood City was a must win for the Raptors to advance. Goobs scored on a corner kick from Madison within the first 5 min of the game to put the Raptors up 1-0. The rest of the Raptors kept the ball in the opponent's backfield for the majority of the game with aggressive attacking and defensive stops if any advance was attempted by their opponent. Colleen, filling in for a sick Devon at goalie, spent most of the game dealing with the seagulls, but provided two well executed saves. The second half was continous pressure in the final third of the field from the Raptors. Katie S provide a thrilling strong, long goal from outside the 18 box late in the second half to put the Raptors up 2-0. In a tough bracket with 3 out of the 4 teams tying in the standings, that goal provided the differential to seat the Raptors as the 1st seed in their bracket.

The Raptor's next game is Sat Jan 16th at 8:30 am in Morgan Hill.  Congratulations on a great team performance by Michela Besagno, Emily Bettencourt, Colleen Donoghue, Gabriella Halikas, Meredith Johnson, Katie Kaprive, Madison Lehmer, Megan Mallon, Regan McDowell, Kit Nelson, Sian Phillips, Kiley Rempp, Devon Rogers, Ashley Rosselli, and Katie Stephens, who met Coach Steve Bradley’s goal of earning the top seed out of their bracket.

Come out and join the fans to cheer them on!
