History of the Walnut Creek Soccer Club

1884 - United States Soccer Football Association formed

1913 - United States joins Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)

1971 - Walnut Creek Soccer Club is formed under CYSA

            - Jim Coleman and Joe Babel formed teams "Jaguars" and "Wanderers"

1974 - Girls soccer is played for the first time in Walnut Creek.

1975 - U10 Superscoops reach the finals of the California State Cup.

1976 - Walnut Creek Soccer Club incorporates as a Non-profit Inc.

- Registration increases from 600 to 1,000 players                         

- U16 Hawks visit and play successfully in England

1978 - U12 Rangers tour England's Midlands, win 5 our of 6 matches. 

1979 - Registrations rises to 1,600 players.

- U12 Rangers tie a team from Sweden at Heather Farms park - Sir Stanley Matthews, England's legendary player, comes to Walnut Creek to supervise two soccer camps.

- First English team to visit Walnut Creek, The Old Hall School, is hosted by the Walnut Creek Rangers.

 1981 - WCSC grows to 1,900 players on 110 teams

1983 - U16 Rangers vs. Hover United of Fresno in State Cup Final - This marked both the high point and the end of the Rangers era, who owned the District IV championship as U10's through U16's and their coach David Nicholas (Past club President)

1993 - U16 Cougars reach State Cup Final, loose in OT

1995 - Walnut Soccer Club enrollment exceeds 2,100 - 45% are girls

1996 - U11 Cobras reach State Cup Semi- Finals
