WC GU13 Infinity - State Cup Diamond 1 Champions!

Walnut Creek Infinity enjoyed an unseasonably warm Valentine's Day in Modesto at the U-13 State Championship. Infinity faced SCA for the final game. For most of the first half the teams played evenly moving the ball up and down the field in alternate drives. As the first half started to close Infinity gained momentum with several great shots on goal that just barely missed. The parents and spectators gasped as an Infinity ball struck the top bar of the goal and bounced just out. Unfortunately the first half closed 0-0.Infinity

Coach Sissi and Coach Bob pumped up the girls at half and with a couple of position swaps and the girls came out running. The action slowly built during second half and at 49 min the girls expertly passed the ball up the field in front of the defender. The right wing swept in and crossed the ball to the left wing who swatted the ball into the back of the net! The parents erupted at the long awaited goal. For the next 10 minutes the girls played confidently and at the 60 min mark the forward received a great pass, turned the ball and using her left foot sent the ball into the back of the net!

The Infinity girls played an awesome game winning their second State title in 3 years!
Congratulations to the girls, Coach Sissi and Asst Coach Bob!

WC GU12 Extreme - State Cup Diamond 2 Champions!

Walnut Creek U12 Extreme finished off their season on a high note. Playing the State Cup Red Quarter Final against Folsom, in a closely fought game. Folsom took the lead in the first half and held on to that lead through the first half. Going into the second half Extreme continued to battle but couldn't find a way through until later in the second half when a great defense splitting through ball put Caroline Welch at a tight angle against the keeper.  Caroline calmy and firmly found the back of the net. This took the teams into golden goal overtime – no goals, onto PK’s. The PK Extremeshootout was intense with Extreme falling behind in the PK’s but kept their heads up and ended up winning the shootout with 3 saves from goalkeeper Kylie Quinn.

Moving onto the semifinals Extreme came against a strong, disciplined Force 02. Again Extreme fell behind, pulled one back and then fell behind 2-1 again ‘Extreme’ character came through as they battled all the way and a great through ball to Maddi Salinas found her through on the keeper and powered the ball home with less than a minute to go - a repeat of the previous day overtime and then on to PKs. Again Extreme fell behind in the PL shootout but clawed their way back to win the shoot out with some finely taken PK’s.

The Championship saw Extreme meet a hard working Placer team – Extreme played very composed soccer, calmly moving the ball around  and created opportunities early on. Alexis ‘Lexi’ Sanchez slotted the ball home from 6 yards to put Extreme ahead in the first half.  Opportunities came for both sides throughout but nothing changed until  Natalie LaRue closed the Championship out with 10 minutes left on the clock. A great end to the season and a terrific example of never giving up until the whistle blows – there is always time to score!

Congratulations Extreme: Carol Halpin, Natalie LaRue, Emma Mendelssohn, Zoe Morgenstern, Emily Nakamura, Kylie Quinn, Corinne Ricardo, Madison Salinas, Alexis Sanchez, Josie Skopec, Sydney Sodergren, Sophie Ward, Caroline Welch, Steffie Wong, Danielle Wozniak,  Coached By Steve Bradley.
